Happy new year!
Just completed an SSR01 for 5V output, with LM431 and AD797.
So configuration is exactly like this:

...but with 797.
It'll be powering an external sound card which requires a 5V, 1A supply.
I doubt it'll ever need that much current (these are nominal specs from the manual), but I'll probably use the enclosure as heatsink, just to be safe.
I will breadboard the transformer/bridge stuff. Since I have various transformers lying around, I was wondering what would be the optimal unregulated DC voltage input before the LM317 (i.e. @ X1,X8)?
Thank you in advance!
Kind regards,
Kostas
You must have 10-12 V DC at least.
Thanks for the prompt reply! Will do and will post pics once everything is cased up! :-)
Sorry for the double post, but it just hit me that I could use one of the numerous wall-warts I've saved over the years (yes, I'm kind of a hoarder when it comes to electronics :-P ).
You think SSR01 reg will be able to clean up all the mess incoming from the switcher?
Or better play safe and use a simple transformer-bridge-cap?
You can start with the stuff you have and see how it works.
