Loudspeakers, transmission line
In the late 70's I built a pair of transmission lines. The tube inside was nearly three times the height of the speaker. The tube was filled with different kinds of damping material.
The sound quality was not at the top. The biggest disadvantage was that the speaker was capable to produce frequencies down to 10 Hz, which was quite unpleasant! The efficiency was also very low. Bass element was a 8" KEF and the treble unit was a horn from Isophon together with a attenuator of very poor quality. |

The hifi table (or shelf) at the right, did I make for my sister. It did work but was really heavy with all vinyls! The weight was around 100 kg! The furniture was also pain in a.. to the floor. The globe wheels made deep tracks in the oakfloor.
The cassett recorder near the floor is a JVC CD-1635 Mark II, a very low power thing. The current consumtion was only 100 mA / 9V and 200 mA with the VU-meter lamp on! |
