Subwoofer

In the early 80's I was getting interrested in building a subwoofer. The drawings was published in the swedish hifi magazine 'Radio & Television' (later Elektronikvärlden). It was a conventional design with two elements mounted together, face to face.

At the bottom there is a powerful amplifier with 500 watts of output power, active filter (18 dB/octave, 100Hz) and circuitry for automatic power on and off.

A pair of speakers, one horn and one subwoofer.

The picture at left shows the speaker with the baffel removed. The material is chipboard (spånskiva). The board is 22 mm thick. Inside I made thick enforcements in wood. The enclosure is painted with polyuretane boat paint, glossy and hard.

The picture at left shows the speaker with the amplifer and crossover network.

At the left you can see the massive heatsink (5 kg!) and the pcb for the 500 watts amp. The heatsink is made by myself. It is made of three pieces. I have used aluminium junk from 'Plåt & Profil', Gothenburg. It costed 75 SEK (8 USD) if you don't count my own work.

At the bottom, filter (left) and automatic power on (right).

At the top the power supply for the amp.

At the right the power supply for the filter.
